In 2022, AmCham is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a year full of celebratory and notable events. Leading up to the big anniversary event of May 25, AmCham will host a series of (breakfast) sessions in collaboration with content partners of the 60th Anniversary Celebration.
On February 8, the second (breakfast) session of the ‘Good Morning! Start Your Day with AmCham!’ series took place, in collaboration with BlackRock. During this webinar, the topic 'Sustainability' was discussed.
Imagining how we, as a society, will adapt to the changes wrought by the climate transition can be difficult. Nonetheless, Lukas Daalder, Chief Investment Strategist at BlackRock and Mathijs van Dijk, Professor of Finance at the Rotterdam School of Management and Scientific Director at Netspar, discussed their perspectives on the future of global warming and its impact on business, society, and global finance.
Marc ter Haar, Executive Director of Amcham, who hosted this session, asked the two guests about their predictions for the next 10 to 15 years. Mr. Van Dijk forecasts the emergence of two trends. He anticipates a return of individuals or businesses closely monitoring everything that happens in the financial sector in order to better adapt to the industry's transition and that the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) will be increasingly used to achieve business sustainability. According to Mr. Daalder, the subject discussed today is here to stay and will only grow in importance over time. He predicts that investors will investigate the sustainability of businesses and that authorities will restrict certain business activities. As a result, businesses should begin considering how they will adapt to these changes and restrictions, as there may be some real risks involved. To illustrate, BlackRock's clients may face significant investment risks, while producers may face real risks associated with developing the appropriate plans and policies.
AmCham expresses its sincere gratitude to Lukas Daalder and Mathijs van Dijk for their expertise on the topic.
The webinar has been recorded and can be accessed here if you were unable to attend or wish to relive it.
