On June 2, AmCham’s Annual Investment Climate Study presentation in collaboration with Bain & Co. took place online.
The presentation was given by Jelle Thole from Bain & Co. and focused on three key messages: Update on the NL investment climate, decarbonization is a must-win opportunity and key action to attract sustainable FDI.
According to the study, while global investments have rebounded (after years of decline because of COVID-19) with FDI exceeding pre-pandemic levels, COVID-19 and geopolitical circumstances continue to lead to challenges. Amidst this global context, the Dutch investment climate has become more challenging, driven by several factors including negative public sentiment around corporates and a more challenging regulatory environment. The climate transition now provides the Netherlands with a must-seize opportunity to decarbonize and at the same time improve its investment climate. The key is to move at pace, otherwise there is risk in lagging in the largest transition of the coming decades. The Netherlands is well positioned to capture this opportunity given its entrepreneurial, open economy and attractive ecosystem. However, key for collaboration between the Dutch government and companies is to take four actions to not risk losing out, which are the following:
- Create globally recognized sustainability hub through collaboration across stakeholders;
- Further stimulate green subsidies / investments through right criteria and procedures;
- Optimize legislation with further tailoring and better procedures at level playing field with EU;
- Ensure infrastructure is in place at the right time to enable transition to Net Zero.
AmCham expresses its sincere gratitude to Jelle Thole for giving the presentation and, together with Marc Lino, working on the Investment Climate Study and to Jenny Davis-Peccoud for moderating the session.
