On July 8, AmCham facilitated an online conversation on fighting racism and discrimination attended by over 175 Members. The session was an initiative of AmCham's Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee.
Terence Guiamo (Head of Diversity & Inclusion at PwC), Blake Harrop (Global Partner & Managing Director Wieden+Kennedy The Netherlands) and Marijn Pijnenburg (Business Development Executive at IBM) – all Member of the AmCham D&I Committee – shared perspectives on the Black Lives Matter movement and how recent events are impacting their organizations. They also spoke about how this moment can help increase awareness and understanding, and what organizations can do to advance equality and inclusion. What are the recent events really about? And how can we become comfortable with having the uncomfortable conversations within our own organizations?
A few takeaways:
- Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter: working on full inclusion means also looking into the issues specific constituents face;
- Have conversations within your company and focus on bringing people together. Set basic rules, listen to each other and have a strong facilitator who can moderate these dialogue sessions;
- Challenge the Board on their blindspots.
AmCham The Netherlands cordially thanks Terence, Blake and Marijn for sharing their stories, insights and best practices, and all participants for joining. Please keep the conversation going!
