From Cultural Diversity to Inclusion – Taking Action Where It Matters

Published:

Many organizations in the Netherlands by now have robust programs in place to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Ethnic-cultural diversity however, is a dimension of diversity that remains a challenge for many. How do we get from cultural diversity on the work floor to an inclusive corporate culture?

This is the question we explored today, March 28 with our speakers: Sanne Pisters of Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) / Diversity at Work, Sergio Panday of ROOTS INSPIRE, Kimberly Fuqua of Microsoft and Faysal Barrachdi of Bridges Network and AFM. The session was hosted and moderated by Soeradj Ramsanjhal of Stibbe.

Some of the takeaways from this session

🔸 Tolerance and inclusion are not the same. Are we priding ourselves in our tolerance, while maintaining a blind spot for the real state of inclusion in the Netherlands?

🔸 Moving from fluff to value: the issues will not solve themselves, but conscious efforts to break through similarity bias, to sponsor (not just mentor) ethnic-diverse talent and to have rolemodels can unlock the potential of people and create great value for the organization.

The American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands (AmCham) thanks Stibbe and its Managing Partner Hans Witteveen for hosting. We cordially thank all speakers for their honest, invaluable and personal contributions - your stories and recommendations resonate!
