At Dow, they play a critical role in supplying the many vital products and technologies that power our healthcare, hygiene and medical industries. They supply the world with materials needed for many life-critical applications: disinfectants, sanitizers, cleansers, personal protection equipment for healthcare professionals, memory foams for hospital beds, and more.
Last week, they shared their plans to repurpose existing Dow facilities – including one in Stade, Germany – to produce hand sanitizers, which remains in short supply amid COVID-19. With help from suppliers and regulators, they have ramped up hand sanitizer production at four additional sites in Michigan, West Virginia, Belgium, and Brazil. All of the hand sanitizers that will be produced at these four sites has been allocated – much of it for donation to health systems and government agencies – and the first deliveries are expected to begin this week.
As we move forward through this crisis, here are three things our industry should be focused on, according to Dow’s CEO Jim Fitterling:
- Just as we have done at Dow, we all must run our businesses safely and reliably.
- Let’s not forget that our industry is uniquely qualified to address world challenges when and where they are needed.
- Related to that last point, I want to encourage all of us to continue moving forward on our commitments to sustainability.
