On February 7, AmCham and it's People Committee hosted the annual event on legislative developments in the labor market. We were joined by three expert speakers Jan Ten Hoor, Head of Department/Labor Law at the Ministry of Social Affairs & Employment, Mark Poort, Director of Social & Public Affairs at Randstad, and Cara Pronk, Partner at Van Doorne.
The first section of the event focused on upcoming changes in the labor market for 2025. Currently, there is a strong division on the differences in types of employment contracts in the Netherlands. In an effort to drive an optimally functioning labor market, there has been legislative effort to reduce differences between these contracts. Our experts dove into what these changes would be and the conversations around them, including bandwidth contracts, temporary work timelines, and clarifying qualifications between employee-employer relationships.
The second portion of the event explored the impacts of the new EU-AI act for HR. With new legislation, there are changes that companies can be making now, such as educating staff on AI in accordance with the new AI-literacy act. To prepare for the future, companies can familiarize themselves with upcoming expectations as providers or deployers of AI, identify the risk-type of their AI use, and pre-emptively create governance models for reporting and checking systems. At the end of each event section, guests were able to have their questions answered before connecting with one another over lunch.
