Today, 24 June, AmCham had an online conversation with Roger Cox. Mr. Cox is known for representing the Urgenda Foundation and 900 citizens in the successful case against the Dutch government in 2015. Most recently, he represented Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) in an equally successful case against Shell. In 2011, Roger Cox published Revolution Justified: Why Only the Law Can Save us Now, a book about climate change and the stalemate or deadlock around this issue. In his book, Roger Cox calls for judicial intervention to save the planet and humanity from dangerous climate change.
During a one hour online conversation with AmCham Members, Mr. Cox spoke about the urgency of the fight against climate change and shared his perspectives on legal action as a tool to ramp up climate action. He spoke about the impact of these and similar groundbreaking lawsuits - both in the Nehterlands and internationally - and the ripple effect they could cause.
