As business leaders and citizens, we find ourselves at a time in history in which facts, science, and trusted information are questioned more than ever before. Not only that, but online and offline organizations seek to spread misinformation and opinions, and place too much trust in trends, further challenging our ability to determine what is real and what is not.
On Monday March 1, AmCham hosted the Panel Discussion Fact or Fiction: Business and Science in an Age of Losing Trust in Information. The session focused on the challenges that misinformation and distrust in fact puts on today’s businesses and organizations and was an initiative of AmCham’s Rotterdam Chapter.
Ansgar Richter, Dean of the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus Univeristy (RSM), Hans van Leeuwen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of ErasmusMC and Aukje Hassoldt, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management for TU Delft, shared their expertise and discussed topics like: how do we use facts, science, and data to drive our decisions and communications about complex topics like diversity, technological advances, and pandemics? And, how do we communicate clearly with clients, employees and partners when they may be receiving conflicting information, or feel distrustful of information? Melissa Ablett, Vice-President and Head of Centers EU & Asia at the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) and member of AmCham's Rotterdam Chapter, moderated the session.
AmCham The Netherlands cordially thanks Melissa Ablett, Ansgar Richter, Hans van Leeuwen and Aukje Hassoldt for their valuable insights this afternoon.
