Today, AmCham hosted the webinar ‘Exploring New Frontiers: NASA's Moon to Mars Mission and the Orion Program’ in collaboration with NASA. Bill Hartwell of NASA's Orion Program Office spoke about NASA’s ambition to safely bring humans to the Moon and further into deep space. Long-term vision, persistence, a spirit of collaboration and groundbreaking innovations all contribute to the realization of this goal.
America and its international partners have entered a new era of exploration. Artemis, the twin sister of Apollo and goddess of the Moon in Greek mythology, now personifies NASA's program to lead humanity back to the Moon, this time sustainably, and to prepare us for our next giant leap: exploration of Mars. Through the Artemis Program NASA will deliver the first woman and next man to walk on the surface of the Moon. When they land, the astronauts will step foot where no human has ever been before: the Moon’s South Pole.
Orion is the spacecraft that will take astronauts on Artemis missions. Named after one of the largest constellations in the night sky and drawing from more than 50 years of spaceflight research and development, Orion is the only spacecraft capable of human deep space flight and high-speed re-entry from the vicinity of the Moon and Mars. Orion will carry the crew to space, provide emergency abort capability, sustain astronauts during their missions and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities.
AmCham The Netherlands cordially thanks Bill Hartwell for his valuable insights and inspiring talk this afternoon.
