September 19 was Budget Day (‘Prinsjesdag’) in the Netherlands. The day after, AmCham hosted a webinar with Peter van Keulen, AmCham Board Member and Founder of Public Matters, to discuss the Dutch National Budget for 2024.
On Budget Day, the Dutch Government traditionally presents its plans and ambitions for the year ahead in the Speech from the Throne, delivered by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. Additionally, the Minister of Finance presents the Government's budget for the coming year.
In a conversation moderated by AmCham Executive Director Marc ter Haar, Peter van Keulen shared highlights from the King’s Speech from the Throne. The King recognized and hoped to maintain the Netherlands’ close relationship with likeminded countries such as the United States of America in upcoming years. Key points were discussed regarding fiscal policy and budget allocations for climate, healthcare and energy, and how this is relevant to the (international) business community. In the conversation with AmCham members, additional questions were covered that are relevant to their respective industries. There was a keen interest in how this Budget and the process that now follows relates to the upcoming Dutch General Elections, scheduled to take place on November 22, as fundamental political choices will remain reserved for the (newly elected) Parliament and the new Cabinet.
AmCham cordially thanks Peter van Keulen for his valuable insights.
