Insights from AmCham’s Industry Leaders During COVID-19

As stated in an earlier newsitem on our website, the Industry plays a critical role during the COVID-19 crisis. In a COVID-19 special report from the American Chemical Society, a few industry leaders were being asked what they have learned so far and how they are moving their business forward.

Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer from Dupont, Alexa Dembek, states: ‘put people first.’ By moving the business forward, Dupont has a control center to support their businesses and regions in corporate and they also empower local leadership to take actions that support their teams —and encourage sharing of best practices with the rest of the world in real time.
In the case of helping others, Dupont is working together with Cummins to help address the current shortage of N95 masks in the United States and elsewhere around the world. Please read more about their collaboration here.

Vijay Swarup, Vice President of Research and Development of ExxonMobil mentions their core principle: ‘protecting tomorrow today.’ By doing this, ExxonMobil’s researchers and scientists across the world will need to continue to push the research, analysis, and discoveries that safeguard the future in the long-run. According to Marcus Remmers, Chief Technology Officer of DSM, ‘the future is something that can easily be overlooked in times of crisis. While fighting short term challenges, you should also paint a vision for your employees on how reality will look like once the storm has passed. To make this happen, you will have to push organizational agility and digital ways of working to the max – allowing people to effectively connect with one another remotely.’ To fight the pandemic and avoid national shortages of disinfectants, DSM helped the Dutch Government by creating additional manufacturing capacity at one of their factories.
